Team and roles

InfraFence organizations, the owner, admin and member roles, what each can do, inviting people and working across several organizations.

Organizations

Signing up creates your organization, named after the company you entered (or your email), with you as its owner. Servers, settings, alerts and the plan belong to the organization. You can belong to several organizations and switch between them from the organization menu in the sidebar. Rename it under Settings › Organization.

Roles

Role Can
Owner Everything an admin can, plus add, change or remove owners.
Admin Add and remove servers, create install tokens and cluster keys, change settings, alerts and the plan, approve AutoMode requests, start the emergency mode, apply fixes, install agent updates, manage the team.
Member See everything: servers, events, settings, reports. Change nothing.

The organization always keeps at least one owner.

Invite people

On Team, Invite by email, with the role Member or Admin. The invitation shows as Pending and is taken up when an account with that email address signs up. Tell the person to sign up at infrafence.com with that address.

Remove someone

Removing a member takes their access away immediately. You can invite them again later.

Change your email address

Under Settings › Account, Change email (platform admins: Admin › Account):

  1. Enter the new address, your current password and, if you use two-factor authentication, the code from your app. They are asked again even though you are signed in.
  2. InfraFence sends a confirmation link to the new address and one to your current address. Open both: only then does the address change, and until then you keep signing in with the current one.
  3. Send the links again sends fresh links (the earlier ones stop working); Cancel the change drops it.

The new address always has to be confirmed from its own inbox. An address that already belongs to another InfraFence account can't be used; the form doesn't say which addresses have an account, so if no link arrives, check the address.

Your organizations, roles, servers and settings stay as they are, and invitations sent to the new address are taken up when it is confirmed. Email alert channels keep the address they were set up with: change them under Settings › Alerts. The owners and admins of your organizations see the request, the change and a cancellation in the Activity log.

If your current address can't receive email (InfraFence emails don't reach an address), its link can't arrive: open the link sent to the new address, then write to info@infrafence.com. We complete the change once we have checked it's you.

Two-factor authentication

Deciding approvals and applying risky fixes need two-factor authentication. See Two-factor authentication.
